The Villages in the Region Vega de Granada



Along with the capital and forming part of the Granada district you can find a number of towns linked by their history to the city of the Alhambra. Places that share their patrimonial wealth and arise in an environment characterized by the green lines of “choperas” and the carefully cultivated fields. Villages like Chauchina, Santa Fe, Fuente Vaqueros (village where Federico García Lorca was born) or Cijuela. The tradition says that in this village the king Alhamar, founder of the Granada kingdom, directed the repairs of the canal system and the irrigated land. The archaeological remains that date from the prehistoric times to the Muslim period link the towns of Vegas del Genil, Cúllar Vega or Churriana de la Vega.

Location


The region Vega de Granada has 41 municipalities. The most interesting ones for people who like the capital and nature are situated at the foot of the Sierra Nevada.

 

At the north of the capital are the villages Huétor Santillán, Viznar, Alfacar, Nivar, Güejévar, Cogollos Vega and Calicasas situated. These villages are close to Natural Park Sierra de Huétor. Pinos Puente and Atarfe are situated at the foot of Sierra Elvira.

In the west of Granada is the Vega the Granada situated. This is typical country side with a lot of fields where the farmers raise there agriculture products. Santa Fé is one of the villages situated in this area. This village is nice to visit because it has very beautiful city gates that are in very good condition. Other villages in this area Fuente Vaqueros, Chauchina, Valderrubio, Churriana de la VegaCúllar VegaLácharCijuela, Las Gabias, Alhendin, Vegas del Genil.

At the east of the capital is Gúejar Sierra located , in a beautiful valley, is a typical mountain village. Also the villages Dúdar, Quéntar and Beas de Granada are located in the same direction. Pinos de Genil and Cenes de la Vega are located halfway Güejar Sierra and Granada capital.

At the south and south east of the capital are  a chain of village situated; Monachil, Huetor Vega, Cajar, Zubia, Orgijares, Otura with it´s golf courses, Gójar and Dilar. These villages have a great part of their terrain situated in the Natural Park Sierra De Nevada. South of Granada you find also Otura that is the only village inland the province of Granada with a golf course.
