The village is situated at 543 meters above sea level and has 4.479 inhabitants (2014). In this town was born the most important twentieth-century Spanish poet Federico García Lorca, whose figure is the main tourist and cultural claims of the town. It is in the middle of the "Fertile valley" The country side has large poplar forests which makes the landscapes very colorful in autumn. The agriculture is the engine of the economy; Fuente Vaqueros sustained in a polyculture of the valley in which has room for vegetables, asparagus, tobacco, poplar (for wood exploitation), fruit and other cultius.
