The village is situated at 1088 meters above sea level and has 2946 inhabitants (2014). The village has kept a lot of his authenty, you can even see some "tinaos". Guëjar Sierra is also part of Natural Park Sierra Nevada. It is an excellent basis to plan excursions in the Sierra Nevada and also for visiting the capital Granada.

Festivities in Güéjar Sierra
- Güéjar Sierra is celebrating the fiesta of it´s patron San Roque in the middle of the month of August;
- The Feast of the Asadura Matancera is celebrated on the first days of the month February. This festival is going together with tasting of the cooked asadura on güejareño style and with drinking mostar of Güejar Sierra;
- Fiestas de Canales in honor of Nuestra Señora de Gracia. They are celebrated on the first weekend in September in the hamlet Canales. On the last day of the festivities, on Sunday a big "paëlla" is prepared which everybody can taste;
- Feria y Fiestas del Barrio Alto (September). This is celebrated in the higher neighborhood of Guëjar Sierra at the final of September. This festival is full of tradition and flamenco.
