In the northern part of the Altiplano, Huéscar has a regional function. The village is close to the mountain Sierra La Sagra, which is the same for Puebla de Don Fadrique. More in the west is the beautiful (mountain) village Castril situated, next to Natural Park Sierra de Castril. Just a few kilometers south of Huéscar you find the small cave village Galera in the middle of a semi dessert landscape with is typical hills. Taking direction to Baza you will encounter Castilléjar which have been partly built on a rock. This is also a cave village. In the direction of Park Natural Sierra de Maria is the historic village Orce, where they have found the oldest human remains of Europe.

In the southern part of the Altiplano is Baza the biggest city with an enormous list of monuments and situated next to Park Natural Sierra de Baza. In the middle we find one of the nicest lakes of Andalusia, Embalse Negratin. At the South side of the lake are natural hot springs located, which you even can try out in Baños de Zujar.
