The village is situated at 540 meters above sea level and has 3.209 inhabitants (2014). Cijuela is located in the Vega of Granada and surrounded by a wide space of green poplars, rich orchards and crossed by the river Genil. It is an area of flat land, which the Arabs called "small plain '.
In the 10th century they started building an advanced irrigation system that carried water to the entire area by a complex network of canals and ditches. This caused that agriculture is the main economical source of income. The village is only 3 km away from the airport which is causing noise and polution, although there are not many flights a day.
