Chauchina



The village is situated at 551 meters above sea level and has 5.499 inhabitants (2014). The first remains found in Chauchina correspond to the Middle Neolithic period and were found at the site called "Las Catorce Fanegas".

Points of Interest in Chauchina


  • Tower "Torre de Romilla": Romilla Tower is approximately half a mile from the left bank of the river Genil.
  • La Peana: The base is part of a Doric column from the Sierra del Turro, Loja, which was destined to the central courtyard of the Palace of Charles V. (Alhambra). On the way to Granada it broke and now it stands next to the  church.
  • Chapel: Ermita de la Virgen del Espino (1918)

Festivities in Chauchina


  • On the 25th of April San Marcos is celebrated when the people are enjoying the country side.
  • In the 2nd week of September the popular fiestas are celebrated;
  • On the 7th of October a fiesta in honor of "Virgen de la Rosario" is celebrated;
