In the region you find the Natural Park; " Parque Natural de las Sierras Tejeda, Armijara and Alhama which is situated in the south, close to the coast. Paraje Natural Acantilados de Maro-Cerro Grodo is located between on the border of the provinces Malaga and Granada. It covers the municipalities of Nerja and Almuñecar. It was declared a Natural Park in 1989 and in 2003 was included in the Special Area of Mediterranean Importance (ZEPIM). There are a series of coves, cliffs and small beaches along this coast, with a specific flora and fauna of the area, with a biodiversity marked by sea and land vegetation.
