Castril



The village is situated at a level of 890 meters above sea level and has 2.290 inhabitants (2014). The first settlers of Castril were the Romans, who used his famous Peña as protection for a military camp that later became a village. In fact, the name could be derived from the term castro (camp). Under Muslim rule became a fortified city and was christened Hisn (Castle) Qastal. Castril is an excellent place to stay if you love nature and the typical authentic villages of Andalucia.

Festivities in Castril


  • "San Anton" is celebrated on the 17th of January;
  • "La Candelaria" is celebrated on the 2nd of February;
  • With Eastern several procession are held;
  • On the last Sunday of April, a festival is held in honor of the Virgen de la Cabeza at the Ermita de la Solana;
  • On the 13th of May a fiesta celebrated in the hamlet Fatima in honor of "Virgen del Fatima";
  • On the 15th of August  Virgen de las Trampas is celebrated;
  • On the first Sunday of August the celebrations in honor of the "la Virgen de Tíscar are celebrated in the hamlet Fuente Vera with a procession; 
  • At the end of August the council is organizing the Festival of the "Migas" which is taking place at the main square;
  • From the 6th till the 14th of October the popular festival in honor of  "Cristo del Consuelo " and "de la Virgen del Rosario" is celebrated with bulls that are walking through the streets (without killing the animals);
  • On the 13th of December "Santa Lucia" is celebrated;
