Caniles



The village is located at 911 meters above sea level and has 4514 inhabitants (2014). Caniles has a rich history. There are remains found of Neolithic settlements in Cueva de la Pastora or Poblado de los Montones de Piedra; remains of out of the Copper and Bronze period in Rejano, the Carriza, in Barrio de San Sebastián and in Fuente de la Salud. The town is located within the Natural Park of Sierra de Baza, which has abundant vegetation and has magnificent scenery. 

Festivities in Caniles


  • San Antonio is celebrated on the 13th of June.
  • Día de la vieja: on Lent Wednesday the people are going to the country side with prepared food;
  • The fair of Caniles is celebrated in the first week of August;
  • El Robo del santo or the day of "San Sebastián" is celebrated on the 20th of January.
