The village is located 553 meters above sea level and has 414 inhabitants (2010). In the past Melegís was known as "Melexis" and was a separate municipality until 1972, when it merged with Restábal and Saleres in the municipality of El Valle.
In the fifteenth century it was the residence of the Nasrid court for a short period of time, making it the capital of the Kingdom of Granada. It was reconquered along with the rest of the Valley by the Marquis de Villena. After the expulsion of the Moors it was repopulated during the XVI and XVII centuries by Galician and Castilian. In the eighteenth century, important noble families,with influence of the province, settled here. Building mansions in which they placed their arms, which are still preserved.
You can enjoy the thermal birth of El Baño located 2 Km from the town, below the cemetery, whose waters are improving skin conditions.
