It has magnificent views of the Sierra Nevada so it is also called "El Mirador de Sierra Nevada". There are two versions about the name of this town, one related to the units of ownership and come from Roman times, and the other with the tribute paid to the Church (tithes) in the time of the Visigoths. In any case, it is clear that during the Roman Empire it was a kind of hostel for travelers going by Via Augusta from Acci (Guadix) to Iliberis and was known by the name of Diezma.
During the Arab domination,it was outside this route and became a farmstead. It suffered frequent ziríes incursions because of the advance towards Granada. Until 1571, however, is not named or done only as a farmhouse with just ten houses. Earlier, in 1536, was purchased from the Crown of Castile by Luis Guiral who acquired the title of Estate of Diezma. A great part of the municipality is situated inside Natural Park Sierra de Huétor.
