A town of 594 inhabitants located near the honomynous river. The town was probably founded in the Muslim period, but destroyed by the earthquake in 1884. In the area they have found prehistoric graves. Cacin has many caves; in one of them, the Cacin Cave in the zone "Los Tajos" they have found archaelogical reamins from the Neolithic period. Between the town and the lake you find "el Punte Romano" which is actual not a roman bridge, but dates back to the beginning of the 20th century. At this point you can start a nice hiking route which goes along the river to the lake. You have to cross several times the river Cacin by small footbridges. This route is going through the area  called "Los Tajos", which takes you through this beautifull river canyon. The tradition fiesta is celebrated in the first week of August in honor of San Sebastian. On the 20th of January they have a kind of pelgrimage (Dia de Merendicas) when they enjoying eating and drinking on the countryside.

Festivities in Cacín

  • On the 20th of January the festivities known as the day of Merendicas are celebrated, a kind of pilgrimage in which residents enjoy the country side with food, drinks;
  • The night before the 2nd of February the traditional Candelaria is held with several fires formed by pallets, old furniture, etc, 
  • In August are the festivities celebrated in honor of San Sebastian during 4 days;

  • Prehistoric Cave: Cueva de Cacín. It is a Neolithic archaeological site located in the area known as Los Tajos. The cave was inhabited during the Stone Age and inside were discovered ceramics with stamped triangular and bands. Among them is the famous glass of Cacín which is exibited in the Archaeological Museum in Madrid;
