Puerta de los Tableros

This gate bridge was for military use and was used also to link two devices of water supply; on the Alcazaba Qadima or Old Albaicín and the Alcazaba Yidida or New Alhambra. A grid disposed on the river allowed the passage of water without intrusion.

Today only one of the two brackets that made the gate and start of a great horseshoe arch is preserved. At the base of the tower was a door, now covered, which gave access to an internal staircase, which served to catch river water if was necessary.
