Finca La Zafra is privileged to be one of the last sugar cane fields left in the peninsular of South Europe. This land is located in the delta of the Guadalfeo river, a few meters from its riverbed. This area has a tropical climate that allows the cultivation of sugar cane for over a thousand years. The farm opens its doors in order to show the process of cultivating sugar cane; from the planting and growth to its harvest. A tour will take, about 45 minutes and will be represented by a "Mondero" of that period period, along with his tools and equipment. He will collect the sugar cane on the traditional way. At the end of the visit, you can also enjoy a tasting of sugar cane.
The process of making the rum "Ron Montero" is starting at this farm. Sugar cane was one of the most important pre-industrial activities from the Muslim era and was growing throughout at the Mediterranean side. Currently this as Mediterranean culture is abandoned and has become a characteristic "flavor" of the American Caribbean. Ron Montero is a bodega founded in 1963, within a family of large sugar tradition and the principles of quality and craftsmanship of its products are kep.
