El Fraile - Beas de Granada

A very impessive natural statue named "El Fraile"  which means the Monk. It is located next to a typical Andalusian village and inside the Natural Park Sierra de Huétor. It is a piece of rock that you can expect rolling over in the valley at any moment.

The legend is saying that a statue was situated at the entrance of the town. In the times of the Catholic Monarchs a rich trader built this statue to hide his fortune, before he was starting the fight. To mislead the thieves, he  built another one just opposite the first. Both were known as "El Fraile" and ¨La Fraila". This has been a sought treasure for thousands of years, until the point that "La Fraila" collapseed. Nowaday there is only one statue and the fortune has not yet been discovered. You do not have to worry about mass tourism at this place; it is a hiden secret.
