Fonelas

The town of Fonelas is located in the Hoya de Guadix. The river fardes crosses its municipal and in the town center there are numerous cave houses. Some are being renovated as tourist accommodation, being fresh in summer and warm in winter. It has some remains of the Bronze megalithic burialI that is formed by about 70 dolmens scattered in several groups. Cerro Gallo and the Solana del Zamborino are also archeological sites. All of them have been exploited and have provided many valuable objects for study.

During the Roman Empire it was possibly a center for cultivation of vines, as their place-name may refer to the vineyards. The footprint of the history is also reflected in the four watchtowers that are in Fonelas, used in the Muslim period for the defense of these lands.
