Embalse de Franciso Abellán

In the regio Guadix you will find the lake Embalse de Franciso Abellán which is a reservoir. The dam is located at the head of Pardes River in a place called Peñón de los Gitanos, in the municipalities of Cortes and Graena and La Peza. It was constructed after the floods in October 1973, in order to prevent future flooding and ensure water for traditional irrigation in the region of Guadix. The work on the dam although did not start until May 1991 and ended in January 1998.
