The village is situated at 167 meters above sea level and has 2890 inhabitants (2013). To its municipality belongs also La Gorgoracha and Lagos.
The origin of this town is clearly Islamic and even his name has such influence. Some authors assert that it comes from the Latin term vallis (that has been Arabizated) which means valley. If you complete it with ben Allah,it is equivalent to valley of the Sons of Allah.
Velez de Benaudalla, is a lively, working town, and is offering all services including shops, banks, chemist, medical services, bars and restaurants. The town has a long and rich history, and the streets and buildings exude the ancient past. The nearby village Lagos belongs also to its municipality.
