Jete's economy has always been based on agriculture. In early Arab period the grapes, raisins and figs had a good reputation, even after the Christian reforestation, when the agriculture was somewhat abandoned. With the time it was recovered and extentended with sugar cane and the factory Trapiche (1736) was constructed. Since the late nineteenth century cane cultivation increased due to destruction of the vineyards by phylloxera.
Jete is located between the Sierra del Chaparral, in a place of undeniable beauty and in a subtropical climate, which produces the optimal climate in the municipality for any time of year. The streets are narrow and steep and typically Moorish. Jete is very close to the Costa Tropical town of Almuñécar (8 km). Jete is split into two by the Rio Verde ("green river") and is situated in the Bodijar Ravine.
