The Castle of Íllora

The Arab castle of Íllora dates from the Caliphate period (IX-X centuries), but has undergone major changes and additions through the time. It has been built on a rock what gives it a strategic position by overlooking the village. The importance of this fortification and its geographical location led to be considered as the "right eye" of the Moorish kingdom of Granada. It was permanently connected through a network of towers and castles like the castleas of Moclín and Montefrío.
