Castle of Íznalloz - Castillo de Almendros

This castle was an Arab construction that replaced the Roman fortress. The construction that served for centuries as a fortress on the border of the recapture, located on the pit of de la Hoz silos and dungeons. There are also remains of argáricos burials sites that have been identified on the hillside, indicating an early occupation of the area. In the Nazari period, Iznalloz became important in the region as a defensive frontier, which facilitated the construction of various fortresses, including this one, reinforced by a system of watch towers. The construction technique with stone separating the drawers of adobe, is clearly nazarí. It seems that originally the village consisted of a double defensive enclosure, with walls around the entire town. It is known as castle or palace of Iznalloz Almendro
