Castle of Orce

The caste of Orce was insistintamente called "Castle or Fortress of the 7 towers", the precise origin of the construction of this fortress is unknown. It is for sur that this is before the eleventh century. Like much of the post-Muslim Caliphate buildings, the rectangle construction sticks to the hillock. The Torre del Homenaje was built contemporarily and rebuilt in the XVI century, after an earthquake. The tower has a square base of around twelve meters wide and is slowly reduced until reaching its end. It is about 30 meters high.

The style is typically Moorish but from the middle it becomes Renaissance style nd because of the various repairs it has undertaken. Its impression of bravery and power is increased by the thirty-two battlements that crown the castle. Its construction had reinforced the strength, placing it in the forefront, along with the Muslim fortresses of Velez Blanco, Baza, Guadix and Huéscar.
