Órgiva



The village is situated at 450 meters above sea level and has 5739 inhabitants; it is the capital of Alpujarra. The municipality includes the old town of Alcázar (with the cores of Fregenite, Olias, Bagis and Bayacas) and also the cores Bayacas, Los Tablones, Las Barreras and various farmsteads (Tíjola, Los Agustines, Cerro Negro).

Festivities in Órgiva


  • On the 20th of January San Sebastián, the patron of Orgiva, is celebrated;
  • The day of  Santísimo Cristo de la Expiración is celebrated on the previous Friday before Good Friday;
  • In this town there is an important hippie community, made up mostly of British, German, Dutch, Swedish, French and other European residents. This community used to celebrate the Feast of the Dragon, every spring since 1997. This Festival is visited by over 10.000 people. It is held in the area of Los Cigarrones;
  • With Eastern a Tourism, Craft and Food Fair is organized;
  • On the 15th of August Asunción de la Virgen is celebrated;
  • The fair is held in the 1st week of October;
  • The day of the Hispanidad is celebrated on the 12th of October.
  • All Saints Day is cellebrated on the 2nd of November.
