Picena



The village is located at 850 meters and has 253 inhabitants (2013). Picena has a beautiful landscape where you can hike. Such as the route to the Balson where you can enjoy majestic views of vegetation and river with several waterfalls. Another possible route is to the spring of Quero where you can spend a pleasant day.

 

The town has nice narrow streets and it is one of the most traditional Alpujarran villages in terms of its architecture.

Festivities in Picena


  • On the 31st of January the Fiesta de los Quintos, in honor of San Cecilio is celebrated;
  • In the last weekend of August the festival in honor of Virgen del Rosario is celebrated (festival of the Christians and Moors / procession).

Points of Interest in Picena


  • Church:  Iglesia Parroquial de San Cecilio (16th century);
  •  Peñón de Picena;
  • The ruins of the Castillejo de Picena (castle of Picena) are worth a visit. They are situated on a small mountain next to the river; access along a track on the left on the Picen.'herín road. A part of the wall is still standing and the views in both directions are spectacular.
