Golco



The village is located at 1011 meters above sea level and has 37 inhabitants (2013). Golco (also called The Golco) belongs to the municipality of Alpujarra de la Sierra, located in the center-east of the Alpujarra Granada.  After the expulsion of the Moors in 1609, the town was repopulated with families from Galicia, Asturias and León.

Points of Interest in Golco


  • The 16th century church of Golco (Iglesia de Nuestra Señora Araceli);
  • Ruins of the old castle, the remains are dating back to the 8th and 9th century;
  • Picnic  area: this picnic area is situated in Golco where you can enjoy the beautiful views and a spectacular fountain called "deep dish". Pass the small village until the end and follow a path that will lead you below the town to the picnic area.
