Almegíjar



The village is located at 812 meters above sea level and has 377 inhabitants (2013). The village is founded by the Moors and was important, because of the production of silk. Almegíjar is a village that  has kept its authentic urban structure of the past.

 

Notaez is a also a  part of the municipality of Almegíjar. These villages are  "open air" museums in the Alpujarras", where you can see perfectly the most characteristic elements; the "tinaos" (roofs) and "Launa" (chestnut beams,) that have been painted with white lime which gives these villages a special light.

  • A historic spring named "Fuente de Siete Caños" (Calle Daniel Noguerol);
  • The historic laundry place called "Lavadero de Las Posas";

Festivities in Almegíjar


  • On the 25th of March they celebrate San Marcos. This is celebrated by going into the countryside and have a picnic;
  • The annexed village Notaez is celebrating a fiesta in honor of Virgen de la Cabeza in the last weekend of August;
  • The most important fiesta of Almegíjar is the one in honor of Santa Cristo de Salud which is celebrated in the second week of September.
