A small town with 633 inhabitants  (2014). On the 25th of December 1884 there was a strong earthquake between 6.2 and 6.5 degrees on the Richter scale. Its epicenter was a few miles from Játar. It destructed the entire neighborhood of the town. Its reconstruction was conducted by the Associated Press of Barcelona, so in honor of this the streets were renamed to the district of Catalonia.

Barcelona, which is the principal street, Girona, Lleida and Tarragona and the Town Hall Square, was called Plaça Catalunya.
